WHAT TO WATCH: BEST NEW CRIME DRAMAS (25 SEPT-3 OCT)


Plenty of new twists, secrets, and suspects to keep your fall crime drama cravings satisfied this week. One massive hit, Slow Horses, is under way (what a brilliant first episode!), while another, Blue Lights, drops 29 September.

Blue Lights returns for Season 3 on BBC One — the once-rookie Belfast cops are now seasoned pros, facing white-collar crime and internal pressure, with Michael Smiley and Cathy Tyson joining the cast.

The Hack drops on Channel 4 — David Tennant and Robert Carlyle star in this gripping true-story drama about the News of the World phone hacking scandal.

Hotel Costiera landed on Amazon Prime Video (24 Sept) — Jesse Williams plays a fixer at a luxury Amalfi Coast hotel searching for the owner’s missing daughter in this stylish mystery.

And Borderline hits ITVX in October, with a linear premiere on ITV1, 3 Oct Eoin Macken and Amy De Bhrún star as clashing detectives on opposite sides of the Irish border investigating a cross-jurisdictional murder.

Blue Lights – Season 3 (BBC One, 29 Sept.)

The beloved Belfast-set cop drama returns with more sirens, tension, and tightly wound storytelling. Now two years into the job, the once-rookie officers are seasoned, but new threats loom as they dive into the murky world of white-collar crime and those who enable it. Michael Smiley and Cathy Tyson join the stellar cast.

The Hack (BBC, 24 Sept.)

When journalist Nick Davies receives a tip about phone hacking at News of the World, he and editor Alan Rusbridger take on Rupert Murdoch’s empire. David Tennant and Robert Carlyle headline this gripping newsroom drama based on real events.

Hotel Costiera (Amazon Prime Video, 24 Sept.)

Jesse Williams plays a slick fixer at a luxury Amalfi Coast hotel whose world unravels when the owner’s daughter vanishes. Glamorous, mysterious, and with flashes of dark humour, this English-language drama is soaked in sun, secrets, and suspense.

Borderline (ITVX/ITV1, 3 Oct.)

A murder near the Irish border forces two detectives — one from the North, one from the Republic — into an uneasy alliance. Eoin Macken and Amy De Bhrún lead this brooding six-part crime drama praised for its True Detective vibes and striking atmosphere.
