WHAT TO WATCH: BEST NEW CRIME DRAMAS (18-25 MAR)

This week’s crime drama picks span Florida noir, a glossy friendship thriller and outback absurdity — proof that crime storytelling comes in many forms. And, if you haven’t started Gone – featured last week – it’s a must-watch, brilliantly acted, cat-and-mouse whodunnit! Scarpetta is slowly getting very interesting.(Am I the only one who wonders why they even bothered having a younger actress playing a young Scarpetta when Nicole Kidman could easily pass for 30-something?)

R.J. Decker (ABC, 3 March 2026 / Hulu)
Inspired by Carl Hiaasen’s Double WhammyR.J. Decker has apparently set a set a 5-year ratings record for ABC. It stars Scott Speedman as a photographer and ex-con who reinvents himself as a private investigator in South Florida, tackling bizarre, often darkly comic cases while confronting his own complicated past. With help from his journalist ex-wife Catherine, played by Adelaide Clemens, and her police detective wife Mel Abreau, played by Bevin Bru, the series blends case-of-the-week mysteries with sharp character drama.

Imperfect Women (Apple TV+, 18 March 2026)
Adapted from the novel by Araminta Hall, Imperfect Women centres on three close friends whose lives are shattered when one of them turns up dead, exposing secrets and fractures within their seemingly perfect friendship. The series stars Elisabeth MossKerry WashingtonKate Mara and Leslie Odom Jr, with Moss and Washington also serving as executive producers on the twist-filled thriller.

Deadlock (Prime Video, 20 March 2026)
Australian cult favourite Deadlock returns with its signature irreverence as detectives Dulcie and Eddie arrive in the remote outback town of Barra Creek, where a mysterious body part and the disappearance of two backpackers spark a bizarre investigation. Created by comedy duo Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan, the series leans into absurdity — think low-speed boat chases and clues found inside crocodiles — while gleefully skewering small-town crime tropes.
