This week’s crime drama picks range from a powerful true-crime drama based on the British John Worboys case to the return of Netflix’s chilling Danish noir The Chestnut Man, alongside a new obsession thriller starring Jill Halfpenny and a major new Netflix undercover ops series led by Steve Coogan and Strike’s Tom Burke.

Number One Fan (Channel 5, 4 May 2026)
Psychological thriller Number One Fan stars Jill Halfpenny as TV presenter Lucy Logan, whose life begins to unravel after she befriends a woman claiming to be her biggest admirer. Co-starring Sally Lindsay, the series follows what starts as an innocent encounter before spiralling into manipulation, obsession and increasingly sinister behaviour.

Legends (Netflix, 7 May 2026)
Inspired by the real-life story of British Customs officers sent undercover to infiltrate some of the UK’s most dangerous drug gangs, Legends follows a covert team forced to adopt new identities and risk everything to bring down organised crime from the inside. From the creator of The Gold, the high-stakes thriller stars Tom Burke (who we know as broody Cormoran Strike) Steve Coogan, Tom Hughes and Charlotte Ritchie, with the series already being tipped as one of the biggest crime dramas of the year.
The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek (Netflix, 9 May 2026)
The second season of The Chestnut Man opens with the disappearance of a 41-year-old woman who has been stalked for months by an unknown predator playing a disturbing game of “hide and seek.” As the investigation unfolds and the case becomes linked to the unsolved murder of a teenage girl two years earlier, the Danish thriller once again combines eerie atmosphere, psychological tension and chilling serial-killer mystery.

Believe Me (ITV1, 10 May 2026, 9pm)
Fact-based drama Believe Me tells the story of Sarah Adams, a woman who is assaulted after being drugged by a taxi driver and then faces months of disbelief from the police as her case collapses. Inspired by the crimes of serial offender John Worboys, the four-part series focuses on the victims’ fight for justice and the systemic failures that allowed the attacker to remain free, with The Guardian calling it “a punchy, intelligent drama”. Believe Me stars Aimée-Ffion Edwards — of Slow Horses — alongside Industry breakout Miriam Petche in the powerful true-crime drama.

You’re Killing Me (Acorn TV, 18 May 2026)
Cozy murder mystery You’re Killing Me stars Brooke Shields as a bestselling novelist who teams up with an ambitious true-crime podcaster, played by Amalia Williamson, to investigate the murder of a close friend in a picturesque New England town. Blending humour with classic whodunnit elements, the six-part series also features Tom Cavanagh as local detective Jack Kerrigan.
