WHAT TO WATCH: BEST NEW CRIME DRAMAS (26 MAY-9 JUNE)

June is off to a great start with a packed crime drama lineup with major star-led thrillers, from Javier Bardem and Amy Adams in Apple TV+’s dark new take on Cape Fear to a second season of tense British drama The Ex-Wife. Plus a critically acclaimed new Nicola Walker series.

The Ex-Wife – Season 2 (Now available to stream in the UK on Channel 5)
The second season of psychological thriller The Ex-Wife picks up three years after the dramatic events of season one, with Céline Buckens’ (Showtrial) Tasha attempting to rebuild her life in Cyprus with her daughter Emily. But when her ex-husband Jack, played by Tom Mison, is unexpectedly released from prison, old fears quickly resurface as he edges closer to discovering Emily is still alive. “Who can each of them really trust, and can anyone truly change?” the show synopsis asks.

The Witness (Netflix, 4 June 2026)
Based on the real-life murder of Rachel Nickell on Wimbledon Common in 1992, The Witness explores the devastating aftermath through the eyes of her young son Alex, who was the only witness to the crime. The dramatized true-crime series stars Jordan BolgerMax Fincham and James Bradshaw, and draws from the memoirs and experiences of Alex and his father André Hanscombe.

Cape Fear (Apple TV+, 5 June 2026)
Executive produced by Steven Spielberg, psychological thriller Cape Fear stars Javier Bardem as a terrifying convicted criminal seeking revenge on a married lawyer couple played by Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson. Inspired by the classic story, the new adaptation promises a tense, unsettling cat-and-mouse thriller packed with paranoia and psychological menace.

Alice and Steve (Disney+, 8 June 2026)
Described as a “wrong-com”, Alice and Steve stars the brilliant Nicola Walker — best known for Unforgotten and The Split — alongside Jemaine Clement in a funny and deeply awkward drama about lifelong friendship turned chaos. The pair play best friends whose relationship implodes when Steve begins dating Alice’s 26-year-old daughter Izzy, sparking a furious and cringe-filled battle as Alice tries to stop the relationship. The series swept the 2026 Canneseries Awards.
