New seasons of Vigil, Trigger Point and The Game — could it get much better for crime drama fans? Fall is finally here, and with that an onslaught of new cop dramas and British thrillers lands on screens plus a new Netflix movie starring Severance’s Adam’s Scott.

The Whisper Man (Netflix, 28 August 2026) — Based on Alex North’s New York Times bestselling novel, this chilling crime thriller follows a widowed crime writer whose eight-year-old son is abducted, forcing him to turn to his estranged father, a retired former police detective, for help. Their search soon draws them back to the decades-old case of convicted serial killer Frank Carter, known as “The Whisper Man”, whose crimes have left a disturbing legacy. With a sinister urban legend, a vulnerable child, the possibility of something supernatural and plenty of buried family trauma, the Netflix adaptation boasts an impressive cast led by Robert De Niro, Adam Scott, Michelle Monaghan and Michael Keaton.

Vigil – Season 3 (BBC One & BBC iPlayer, 30 August 2026) — Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie return as DCI Amy Silva and DI Kirsten Longacre for their most dangerous investigation yet. This time, the action moves to a remote Arctic research station in Svalbard, Norway, where a member of a covert British special forces mission is shot dead. With the killing threatening to trigger an international confrontation, Silva and Longacre find themselves caught up in a case where geopolitical tensions are every bit as dangerous as the crime itself. The six-part series introduces new faces including Naomi Yang, Amy Manson and Tornike Gogrichiani, with two episodes arriving weekly across BBC iPlayer and BBC One. The BBC’s series 3 teaser offers a glimpse of the icy setting and the danger awaiting Amy and Kirsten.

Trigger Point – Season 4 (ITV1 & ITVX, 30 August 2026) — Vicky McClure is back as ace bomb disposal expert Lana Washington for a fourth series of ITV’s high-pressure thriller. This time, Lana faces an unprecedented terror threat as a calculated bomber wages war on London, forcing her into what could be her most dangerous mission yet. Across six tense episodes, the series promises the combination of ticking-clock suspense, explosive action and the relentless pressure that has become the show’s trademark. Eric Shango and Nabil Elouahabi also return, as Lana is once again pushed to her limits in the fight to prevent a devastating attack. ITV has released a first look at the new series, teasing another race against time for Lana and her bomb disposal team.

The Game – Season 2 (Channel 5, 1 September 2026) — A year after the brutal events of the first series, former detective Huw Miller, played by Jason Watkins, is attempting to rebuild his life after surviving a near-fatal stabbing. Serial killer Patrick Harbottle, played by Robson Green, is behind bars, and Huw believes the nightmare is finally over. But when Huw and his wife Alice retreat to a quiet coastal house, it soon becomes clear that Patrick’s psychological hold over Huw has not disappeared simply because he is incarcerated. Sunetra Sarker, Indy Lewis and Amber James return, joined by newcomers including Tanya Franks and Sonny Ashbourne Serkis. With writer Tom Grieves and director Toby Frow also returning, The Game looks set to continue its unsettling exploration of obsession, manipulation and the psychological scars left by a killer who refuses to let his victim go.
